Reluctantly supported by the sharp-tongued historian Professor Frida Bartel, they discover that the crimes are connected to ancient Celtic sacrificial rituals. The name ‘Balor’, which the perpetrator leaves at the crime scenes, refers to the Celtic god of death and chaos.
The trail leads the investigators deep into the world of Celtic re-enactment and university politics. Between sword-wielding coven and influential academics, they uncover a conspiracy with the aim of restoring the ancient Celtic kingdom of ‘Noricum’. When a colleague is kidnapped, Öhlinger is forced to make a dangerous deal with his convicted ex-superior Heinrich Wagner to save her life.
The hunt for the ruthless killer ‘Balor’ and the unveiling of a planned coup lead Öhlinger and Django to a previously undiscovered Celtic settlement in Devils valley. There they encounter a powerful opponent who blurs the lines between myth and reality. Will they be able to avert the looming danger and expose the true face of ‘Balor’? Suspense and historical depth combine in this gripping crime thriller, which provides non-stop excitement until the last page.

"Ein fesselnder Krimi mit Wiener Charme und keltischem Flair"

Dieses Buch hat mich von der ersten Seite an in seinen Bann gezogen. Es ist mehr als nur ein Krimi – eine Mischung aus Geschichte, Spannung und einer Prise Mystik, die Wien auf besondere Weise lebendig werden lässt. Inspektor Öhlinger und sein Team sind sympathisch, auch wenn sie mit ihren eigenen Problemen kämpfen. Die Verbindung zwischen keltischen Mythen und modernen Morden ist clever und hält einen ständig in Atem. Am besten gefiel mir, wie real alles wirkt: die alten Kultstätten, die Universitätsintrigen, sogar die Streitigkeiten zwischen den Charakteren – alles fügt sich zu einer dichten Atmosphäre zusammen. Und gerade wenn man denkt, man hätte die Lösung, kommt die nächste Überraschung. Das Finale war besonders packend, mit einem Wettlauf gegen die Zeit, der mich bis spät in die Nacht lesen ließ. Wer Krimis mit historischem Tiefgang und viel Wiener Flair mag, ist hier genau richtig. Es geht nicht nur darum, einen Fall zu lösen, sondern um Geheimnisse, die sich über Jahrhunderte versteckt gehalten haben.

Inspektor Öhlinger und sein Partner Django sind ein unterhaltsames Duo mit Ecken und Kanten, die man schnell ins Herz schließt. Besonders gelungen ist die düstere Atmosphäre, die durch die Schauplätze alter keltischer Kultstätten eine geheimnisvolle Spannung aufbaut. Die Einbindung des Namens "Balor" und der Bezug zu uralten Ritualen machen die Handlung ungewöhnlich und faszinierend. Manchmal wirken die Dialoge etwas klischeehaft, doch die interessante Dynamik zwischen den Charakteren gleicht das aus.
