Über dieses Buch

This book is a clearly structured reference work on the family of angelfish (Pomacanthidae). It contains descriptions of the individual species, their habitats, needs, and food preferences, as well as tips on keeping them in an aquarium. Thanks to the copyright permission of many generous supporters worldwide, we have received a considerable number of photos for the book and can thus present all the angelfish in the world with beautiful pictures and descriptions. With this new publication, we would like to make it easier for marine animal lovers, especially aquarists, hobby divers, and snorkelers, to identify the individual species.

In addition, it is very important to us to realistically and critically examine the significance of saltwater aquariums and their compatibility with species conservation, as well as to point out problems and shortcomings in keeping marine animals in aquariums. An important example is that aquarists should inform themselves about the needs of fish and, in particular, their potential final size before purchasing them, so that they do not only realize the limitations of their aquarium after the fact. An important goal must be to avoid questionable exports/imports. It is encouraging that more and more experienced marine aquarists and professional institutions are enabling a significant reduction in wild catches and their trade in the future through the successful breeding and propagation of fish, corals, and other marine animals.
